Hi all

I am new to BIRT and am not a developer but will be using BIRT to run reports accesssing an Oracle database. I can set up and run reports using the simple drag and drop tools and SQL in birt. I now need to be able to translate the reports to various languages e.g. French, German, Dutch. I have Google this and found a good start which suggests to use a .properties file, changing the Resources on the Property Editor for the report and using the Label etc properties Localization to change the value to the relative. Ok this works but has issues. I want to be able to write any report and have the values translated on run without having to add the values to the properties file.

The other problem I have is How do I install and run the Babel Language packs for Ganymede url: "download.eclipse.org/technology/babel/babel_language_packs/R0.8.1/ganymede.php#de". I have downloaded the first Zip file (Not sure why there was so many?) for Germany and unzipped the files and moved them to the Eclipse Plugin folder. Ok easy bit but how do I use them? There does not seem to be any documentation for non developer people like me.

Any help getting me started will be appeciated

Steve,

You can use different properties for different locales, but we have no
way in BIRT of automatically translating a given value so I am not sure
how you can do what you want here. Have you seen this page:
http://www.birt-exchange.org/org/wiki/index.php?title=BIRT:Internationalization

On Babel install
(http://download.eclipse.org/birt/downloads/lang.php?build=R-R1-2_3_2_2-200906011507):

There are different packs depending on what you are localizing. For
example localizing the viewer or the designer. The designer requires
that you just unzip into your eclipse folder. BTW you can start eclipse
with a given locale
see:
http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php?t=tree&goto=368516&#page_top

An example of localizing the birt viewer is explained here:
http://www.birt-exchange.org/org/forum/index.php/topic/18300-language-pack-birt-runtime-2-5-1-a/?=newpost&t=18300
