TM Terminal view - how to manage Java updates? [message #6090] Thu, 22 February 2007 13:18 Go to next message

Having just allowed the automated update of my Java installation to proceed,
I found that the Terminal view no longer gave me serial options, just ssh or
Telnet.

I realised that this was because the RxTx extensions were only installed for
the previous version of Java so it was easy to fix.

My question is: what is the best way to create a stable Java environment for
Eclipse - should I stop updating, or should I force Eclipse to use a
particular version? Is it possible to install the RxTx components somewhere
that they can always be accessed?

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi Paul,

we are currently working with the RXTX maintainers to create Eclipse
Bundles and an Eclipse Update site for RXTX. Due to licensing issues,
this will be served from rxtx.org, but it will allow to run rxtx from
inside Eclipse so you don't need to patch your VM any more.

See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=175336
and http://mailman.qbang.org/pipermail/rxtx/Week-of-Mon-20070129 /848211.html

Thanks,
