Hi,
I've been using Eclipse Galileo for ages just fine, so I thought I'd give Helios a try.
So I just did what I normally do, go to Eclipse.og and download the package I want, in this case the OSX Cocoa 32bit Eclipse 3.6.1 IDE for Java EE.
The troubles started when I tried to execute an update. I've explained in a lot of detail on a new topic I've started on StackOverflow here:
Beyond this I've literally wasted hours and hours on this. I just can't get it to work. I keep getting these errors:
- Artifact not found: http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios/compositeContent .jar. http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios/compositeContent .jar
- No repository found at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios
Notes:
1. I'm not behind a proxy.
2. I've tried the JEE, but also bare bones Eclipse 3.6.1.
3. I've tried different mirrors (including the main site),
4. I've tried SpingSource's version
5. I've tried exporting the update sites to XML, deleting them and reimporting them.
6. I even tried adding forward slashes to the ends of site names.
7. I've made sure I have full write permissions for the eclipse folder, and have even placed it on my desktop.
I mention all of these seemingly odd behaviours because these are suggestions I've read around the web on this problem, which many people are having.
Once last interesting point I've just tried, is to download the " http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios/compositeContent .jar" directly in the browser. It redirects to " http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/eclipse/releases/helios/comp ositeContent.jar" with a 403 forbidden. :\ It seems as though system is finding a mirror, but perhaps the mirror is broken?
Just as I was writing this, I tried one last idea. I discovered "Pulse" by Genuitec, which is a Eclipse install manager. I gave it a shot, and it worked. The site it uses for updates is:
" http://eclipse.poweredbypulse.com/downloads/aux/eclipse-mirr or/releases/helios"
Anyway, any thoughts would be MOST helpful, I'd rather use the official release.
Regards,
Shane

I tried to reproduce, using linux, but seemed to work fine for me.
Using wget, I too see the 'compositeContent.jar' request being
redirected to gatech ... which does seem on and not quite right to me ..
but I know why they do it.
BUT, I no not get "403 forbidden". It actually downloads it. I wonder
if something has changed so it now gives access.
Can you retry? Even if it works, and especially if it doesn't, you can
open a bug on "cross-project" component (In Eclipse Foundation,
Community) as I'm not sure p2 is made to work with redirects at that
level.
But, I think it is especially the "403" that was causing you problems.
