Hi All

Please take it easy on me Razz

Just starting into the JAVA world and installing Eclipse with JDK6u21.

Downloaded Eclipse for Java Developers, unpacked it, installed it, read some intro tutorials, played about with the Perspectives, Editors, Views, Closed Eclipse.

Now can't find it anywhere on the PC.!!!!! Not in start menu, not in program folder, not on desktop Confused

Can anyone help me find it. Does it by any chance need to be started from the exe file each time and be installed each time...I don't think it will be like this.........

Thanks
Steve

Steve,

You need to run the exe from where you unzipped it. You can create a
short cut if you want one; Eclipse does not install anything.

Hey Ed

Thanks.

I just ran the exe file from Winrar before and didn't extract the files to the computer...I'm working on my partner's laptop here in Berlin and Winrar is in German...a bit confusing.but I'm learning.

Didn't know had to unzip it either, thought it would install everything it needed directly from temp where winrar would create the app.

Have unzipped it now to the PC. Runs OK and will create a shortcut on the desktop and start menu..soon Confused

Do you know what Eclipsec.exe is? It's also in the download from eclipse. I downloaded the Eclipse Helios 3.61 IDE for Java Developers Win 32bit.

Thanks...think I will be here a few times.... Embarrassed Embarrassed

Steve

Peace

I've never used that tool.

I've spent a lot of time in Berlin and trying to work with German
computers. The Y/Z switcheroo drove me crazy.

The nice thing about the way it is is that you can install as many
versions as you want without them colliding in some way.

A Google search turns up:

Cheers Ed

Yeah, the old z/y thing is a pain..or maybe getting used to it is the pain. In a dillema at the moment as to which laptop to buy for the JAVA course now I can justify buying a new one. I'm from the UK and used to the British one but live in Germany. I think I'm gonna go for a British one as won't be using the german umlaut keys in programming. If I need them to write letters then I'll just set up some hotkeys for them......

I'm from Germany and I can tell you the other way round is far worse.
If any OS isn't loaded yet, for example if Grub is broken and you need
to type commands manually, especially signs like /\()={[]} are
elsewhere than shown on the keyboard and you have to do that again and
again when there are errors, that really drives you crazy ;)
