One of our customers is using BIRT and arabic fonts. We have configured the fonts directory in fontsConfig.xml. At the startup of
the rendition engine we get the following message
INFO: register fonts in /Apps/Documentum/fonts cost:156ms
but no arabic fonts are rendered.

In a second environment the rendering of arabic fonts works fine and we notice a much larger time to load the fonts:
INFO: register fonts in /Apps/Documentum/fonts cost:12460ms

Furthermore, in the not-working environment the access time of the fonts is not changed at startup, in contrast to the working environment.

We are using BIRT 2.3 in an AIX environment. We double-checked directory names and file permissions and the two enviroments seem to be identical but we were not able to solve the issue.

Did anyone experience similar problems. Are there any possibilities to increase the logging level or to obtain more information why the fonts are not loaded (or not used)?

Thanks for any help,
Martin

Martin,

If you are using the viewer you can set the log level to FINEST in the
web.xml.

Jason,

many thanks for your fast response.

Finally we solved our problem. We had to temporarily augment Birt and iText with additional logging statements to resolve the issue (in case of Birt this was an easy task using the provided project set files to obtain the source code).

The reason of not-rendering the fonts was not sufficient memory to read-in the fonts. Unfortunately iText swallows some exceptions which made the analysis in our situation much more troublesome than necessary.
