I want to install additional software for Eclipse (I use 3.5 because 3.6 is not yet for Scala and Android).
Problem is:
* The downloads / installations are INSANELY slow, I didn't get past 5% on the ADT plugin (for example) in one hour - same for everything else I tried
* Firefox (no other software so far, IE works fine, etc...) is slowed down when it comes to Internet connectivity as long as "install new software" is running
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit here on a quadcore machine with 4 GB of RAM and an 8 MBit / sec DSL.
Is this a known issue, are there any fixes or will I have to stop considering developing for Android phones?
And yes, I disabled everything - firewall, Skype, etc...
Nothing helped.
JDK installed is 6u21, latest release (installed it today).

I haven't had this trouble (yes, Galileo, don't do Scala, do do
Android). I retain my firewall, Skype, etc. unchanged.
Maybe it's just planetary alignment the time(s) you tried? I wish you
better luck.

Hi,
I am also seem to be having lots of problems. I'm on Ubuntu 10.04. I have managed to install the eclipse from the standard repositories, and this is OK (SDK 3.5.2)
However, I now want to install CDT (C++) and PyDev (Python) via the help-install new S/W.
They both fail with timeouts and "this is not in the repository" type messages.
I also downloaded and installed Eclipse/CDT directly from eclipse.org, and this was OK, but I still have issues with PyDev (even when attempting to download from Marketplace).
Any suggestions?

Never, never install Eclipse from "the standard repositories." Go get it
from http://www.eclipse.org You have chosen the correct JDK.
