Hi all,

today I wanted to test the IRC connectivity of ECF. Therefore I
installed the "core" feature and the "IRC provider" feature from the 2
update sites.
It took me some time and the help of a friendly user on the eclipse
channel to find that those 2 features aren't enough. Via trial and error
I finally found the "Collaboration example" to be the thing I needed.

Therefore I suggest to either
* rename the features (I wouldn't expect something called "example" to
be _necessary_, knowing some other Eclipse SDK example features)
* change the description of the features (so one can see from those
descriptions what other features he may eventually need)
* I'm not sure, but can you hide the core feature on the update site and
instead have it only as a prerequisite for the other features (so it
gets installed but is not listed)?

Ciao, Michael.

Hi Michael,

The reason for this is that ECF core doesn't provide a user interface
for creating and connecting IContainer instances.

The collab example plugin/feature does have such a user interface, and
this interface is used/reused for several of the example clients
(including IRC).

As Michael says, we should either remove/change the dependency on the
collab feature (e.g. by creating an 'IRC client' feature), change docs,
or build in the automatic install (for install/update) of the collab
feature. I've filed the following bug for this:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=155391

Thanks Michael...we'll get to this as soon as we can. Sorry about the
trouble caused.

Scott
