Hi!

I know Skype is not an open standard, but maybe the protocol could be
leveraged for your VOIP and chat functionality.

Would be cool because the voice transmission is really very good.

There is a Java binding: http://www.lamot.net/jskype/

Regards,
-Thomas

Hi Tommy,

Excellent point...it's not lost on me, believe me.

I'll immediately take a look at the java binding...I didn't realize
there was one from perusing Skype's dev materials.

Would you (Tommy) or others on this list be interested in doing some
development on this? Please let us know!

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott,

Great! Maybe it makes sense to contact Skype directly, since they might
even be interested in being more involved in the Eclipse community.
Would be interesting to hear their position on that.

Tommy

Hi Tommy,

Yesterday I downloaded and looked at JSkype, and sent a note to the
author. Currently it looks functionally minimal (access to just a small
part of the Skype API), but obviously it could be enhanced.

I'll also attempt to get the attention of the Skype people directly
about possible Java API and ECF/Eclipse integration.

But would you (and others) be willing to participate in a sub-project to
build a skype provider for ECF and an associated Eclipse client? If
so, please let me know.

Thanks,

Scott

I would be interested in that. I put my hand up for the JMS Provider as well
but, i believe you were working on that post-XMPP. I've been busy at the
day-job and with the family and can only devote up to 10hrs/wk on this at
the moment but, it's there if you need it (prolly not a leading role on your
subproject, however).

Hi Mark,

Thanks kindly for the offer...this sounds great. Let's chat by phone
about how this could work. I'll send you an email directly.

Scott

Hi Mark,

I am interested in assisting with the JMS provider as I think we will be
using this in an upcoming project.

Hi Bob,

I've begun working on a JMS provider based upon ActiveMQ's
implementation of JMS (since it's licensed under Apache 2
http://www.activemq.com). I've got signs of life going, but would very
much welcome your taking this over or your help depending upon your
inclination.

Let me know if/how you want to do this...we are still in the process of
getting foundation due dilligence on the activemq library (for
redistribution via eclipse.org), so the JMS provider plugin is currently
housed on my own personal CVS server (only until we get redistribution
approval and then it moves to eclipse.org), but I can provide you/others
direct access to this if you like.

Thanks!

Scott
