Any scientific documentation? [message #5079] Mon, 06 August 2007 17:10 Go to next message

Hello everyone,

I was browsing your site for a long time already, but honestly, i can't find any serious documentation of the conceptual side of higgins. I did see your presentations, diagrams and short descriptions (and of course the faq). Of course, there are lots of buzz-words like user-centricity, user-in-control but that's not what i am looking for. The closest thing to what i need is the diagram in the architecture section. But you have to be an insider to fully understand it :) Do you have any standard diagrams, such as UML sequence diagrams. It would help a lot, to understand many for the moment uncertain things. Like who issues the token? the provider? the user is his own IdP? In such case, does he have a certified attribute set on his machine? How are the essential properties, such as non-transitivity achieved? In which sequence are the messages exchanged and when is the IdP involved? As higgins is a framework, i am sure it doesn't specify everything to the end. On the other hand i miss the detailed explanation what it does specify. Is there any information available online?

Thanks in advance

Hello Skonesit,

Thanks for the feedback, Higgins is still pre 1.0 and our next milestone
after the current one is focused on documentation, packaging, etc.

If you are looking for more information about specific components in the
Architecture diagram, the best place to look is under the Components
navigation bar on the left hand side of the page, right under
Architecture. Scroll down to the component you are interested and click on
the blue links. (If the descriptions haven't been done yet, the text is
black or red.) The questions you are asking about are in the Token Service
component. The Token Service description page has a more detailed diagram
of the Token Service internals. We are planning to provide javadoc for the
components - see example for IdAS under the Downloads navigation bar on
the left. Please let me know if this helps/doesn't help. Your feedback
can help make information more accessable.

Thanks a lot, I'll check it out asap and give you the feedback. By the way, I plan using Higgins as a basis for my master thesis (on identity management in ubiquitous computing environments), so hopefully if i get some good results, i will be able to share them here.

Greetings
Skonesit

We look forward to any feedback you can provide. It is also great to hear
about your thesis. Is there any more detail you can share about your
general topic area at this time? We are definitely interested in learning
about your results!
