While installing or adding Apache ODE v1.x server from server palette. Apache ODE server is displayed in server Palette and it shows "Apache ODE v1.x server [stopped]"

when starting the ODE server an error box appears with the message "Server port In Use http 8080". If i change the port no. from 8080 to 9090, then the error box with message "Server port failed to start" appears. I dont know what is the error in adding that server.

Note: Apache Tomcat is running in port 8080. Apache ODE Server requires Tomcat server in Up/Running condition.

Java Virtual Machine Launcher displays:
"could not find the main class : org,apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap. Program will exist."

Message from console:

Hi diwakar,

After fiddling around with this for a bit, I was finally able to get it to work (but I still don't fully understand everything going on under the covers Wink

Apparently eclipse provides its own launch configuration if you're going to manage the server from the eclipse IDE (start/stop and deploy/undeploy). The port number is set in the "Server/Runtime Environment" preferences in eclipse, but I found that I also had to change the port number in $CATALINA_HOME/conf/server.xml to match this. After that I was able to start/stop the ODE server and deploy/undeploy BPEL processes; the ODE console also works on http://localhost:9090/ode/index.html

I'm not sure what's going on with your configuration - do you have both Tomcat and ODE servers configured from your eclipse IDE? Maybe you have another httpd running on port 8080?

It's the one here:

<Connector executor="tomcatThreadPool"
port="8080" protocol="HTTP/1.1"
connectionTimeout="20000"
redirectPort="8443" />

change 8080 to 9090 (or whatever you need). Keep in mind that this will change the port for HTTP traffic to that server.

The fact that you seem to have a conflict on port 8080 tells me that you already have another HTTP server (or something) using that port - is that the case?

Is it possible that you are trying to start both the ODE and Tomcat servers; in other words do you have two server configurations in your eclipse IDE (one for ODE 1.x and another for Tomcat Vn.x) and you are starting both of these? If so, you should only start ODE, (not the other one) since that will start up Tomcat - ODE runs as a webapp inside of Tomcat.

Thanks for the reply Bob,

I've installed Tomcat 7.0 (not using Eclipse), and installed apache ODE using Eclipse IDE.

I'm just starting the Apache ODe server from Eclipse IDE, no other server is running from IDE or any other services.

I've changed the port no. 8080 to 9090, but still i'm receiving the error message "Server Apache ODE v1.x Runtime localhost failed to start"

Message from Console:

Oops, my mistake Smile I should have looked at the stack trace from your first post.
It looks like your CLASSPATH is missing the logging classes. Make sure you have tomcat-juli.jar somewhere in your CLASSPATH - your $CATALINA_HOME/bin should have this jar.

BTW, I haven't tried using Tomcat 7 yet - I'm still on 6.0.26 and maybe that's the problem. Try asking on the Tomcat forum for help.

Sorry if I couldn't help you...

Bob

Bob,

I already have tomcat-juli.jar file in $Catalina_home/bin directory, and i have set the Classpath till $Catalina_home/bin.

should i add $Catalina_Home/bin/tomcat-juli.jar in Classpath to avoid this error?. Sad

Hmm, ok try this:

1. double-click on the ODE server entry in the Servers view; this should open the server configuration editor

http://wiki.eclipse.org/images/0/0b/Server-config-editor.png

2. in the configuration editor, click the "Open launch configuration" link
3. select "Classpath" in the launch configuration dialog and then "Add externals jars..."
4. navigate to your $CATALINA_HOME/bin and select the tomcat-juli.jar

http://wiki.eclipse.org/images/thumb/7/77/Launch-config.png/583px-Launch-config.png

Hope that helps
Bob

I could not solve the problem still. I changed the server.xml file and port number in the "Server / Runtime Environment". Also enter the tomcat-juli.jar in Classpath, but I have the following problem:
