Hi,

I've been playing with this all day. I upgraded to Win 7 from XP and got the latest version of Helios (3.6 - 20100617-1415) and was unable to install any plugins. I tried PMD, Checkstyle, Subclipse, and several connectors including time management and Edgewall TRAC for Mylyn.

In all of these cases, the software showed as installed after going to Help > About Eclipse > Installation Details, but didn't show up in preferences and was clearly absent from the application.

Went back to 3.5 r2 (galileo) and things are peachy. Anybody else getting this issue?

Were did you install Eclipse? There have been reports that Windows 7
security messes things up if you install into the Program Files directory.
If this is where you installed Eclipse, try installing in a directory
outside of Program Files.

Yeah, it's working now. I haven't tried it, but another potential solution is disabling UAC for eclipse by right clicking 'run as administrator'.

Thanks for the help,

Which IMO is the wrong solution. Yes, it fixes the problem, but
such a procedure is IMO a no-go for any serious software. The correct
way is to set the osgi.configuration.area to a directory where the user
has writing permissions. Unfortunately, Eclipse provides only marginal
support for this. Typically you will need an install program that
ensures that your RCP application.ini file is updated for the proper
osgi.configuration.area directory before its first start. It would be
often very much easier, if this could be done programmatically, but
alas there seem to be no way to realize that.
