how do you deal with expand/collapse in absence of numpad?

Could you be more specific? What is expand/collapse and what does it
have to do with numpad?

expand/collapse branches in any tree view (Project Explorer, Search Results, Outline, ...). Numpad add/substract are the keys mapped to expand/collapse respectively. Problem is that to access numpad add on my otherwise nice keyboard I have to press Fn, Numpad_Add, Fn (three keys).

depending on the operating system you might be able to use the left and right
arrow keys to collapse and expand tree nodes.

Yay! I confirm: I am on Win and left/right arrow keys do work. How come I haven't found it earlier given I almost don't touch the mouse? You just saved my new $100 numpadless keyboard from being shelved. Thanks a lot.
