I started using eclipse 5 years ago, changed jobs and now I'm back with it. I was hoping much of the one-offs of the keybinds were fixed... Is it true that eclipse still can't find the word at the current cursor position?
Every editor but eclipse supports this. Its real simple, the cursor sits in the word "foobar". I press something like ctrl-F3 to search for foobar. It moves to the next occurrence of foobar. I press find next and it moves to the next one. One key press to the next occurrence, no dialog, no selection. All the same find keys work... Awesome...
The only way I know how to do this in eclipse is by selecting the word, pressing alt-f, hitting return, press escape, find next. That's slew of keys to press and not a replacement. Either is having to refer to another view showing me all occurrences in the file where I have to pull my attention from my work.
The AST based symbol highlighting doesn't meet the need either, I turned it off because of the visual noise it causes me.
From a usability perspective, all find related things should use the same find-next and find-prev keys.
Does anyone know of any plugins to do this? I can't find any. Thank you!

You can use Ctrl + [Shift+] K once the word is selected.
