Properties of data source from library overridden [message #547106] Thu, 15 July 2010 14:42 Go to next message

Here's something that's always annoyed me ... maybe someone can weigh in
with a solution ..

I'll use a data source from a library in a report.

Then, instead of opening the library and changing the data URL, ID or
password there, inadvertently open the data source from my report.

Now, I've overridden the properties of the data source in my report ...
if I change them in the library, it doesn't matter.

That behavior itself isn't that bad ... what bothers me is that the
designer shows me the chain-link icon that tells me I added the object
from a library, but unless I think to look at the XML, I have no clue
that the object is now using overridden properties.

I think it'd be nice to have the report designer give you an indication
that an object had a library item's properties extended without having
to check the XML. It'd be even nicer to have an easy mechanism for
undoing those overrides.

Any thoughts? Am I the only one that's bothered by this?

Thanks

I think the only way to restore the link (other than dropping and readding the reference) is to go into the XML and clean up that clause.

Jason,

This looks good! ... for now, my use is tethered to 2.2.2, but I'm glad
to hear this has been addressed!

Thanks
