XSD and WTP relationships [message #54148] Thu, 21 October 2004 17:31 Go to next message

Hi,

I am working on Eclipse Web Tools Platform project
(http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/).

XML schema support is in the 'Web Standard Tools' subproject scope. About
XML tools in WTP : some code has already been put into CVS for XML source
edition. And be sure that XML schema support will be also on our path !

Now that WTP has been created, this give us opportunities to merge efforts
(as IBM has also contributed an editor for schema) and to build more
elements.

Tell me what you think about that great forces merging.

Thanks.

Dominique,

It would be nice to have a "real" schema editor rather than the "sample"
schema editor that the XSD project provides so this sounds great to me.

Ed,

Excellent news. You are very welcome !

Here is our organization in WTP.

We have these great initial code contributions from IBM and
ObjectWeb/Lomboz. We try not to make code dump into CVS. We dig into that
code, doing code review, analysis, some improvments, refactorings and so,
on. After that, our initial step is to put some selected basis into CVS.
And then, the (extension) process continues.

So, we are just doing organic growth. Following this way, starting from
bottom into CVS, everyone has more chance to participate and bring his/her
ideas into WTP. This way has been successfully followed for the SSE
(Structured Source Editor).

The initial SSE code was provided by IBM and it has been a little
improved, refactored, by Innoopract, Jens Lukowski (one individual from
the X-men OSS plugin), OpenWide... with the support of IBM. And recently,
a bunch of selected core classes for XML edition has been put into CVS ;
these classes will be improved and extended for enabling JSP edition for
the next future milestones.

To deal with my planning activities (as I am part of the WTP Planning
Comitee), from when do you plan to work on WTP ? And do you know other XSD
people interested in WTP ?

Thanks.

IBM contribution.

This call has been posted on the wtp-wst-dev@eclipse.org mailing list.
