I am working on creating a new p2 UI for power users as a google summer of code project. This view contains functionalities somewhat between functionalities of Admin UI and standard update UI. If you have ideas on what functionalities should be included in this new view, please state them here.

sounds cool. I wished from time to time to be able to have a look at all the metadata of a
p2 repository (like capabilities and requirements that IUs provide/need), but that's
already more than the Admin UI provides. Is your new UI supposed to be used by users (like
the new Discovery UI or the regular p2 UI) or to be user by repo managers (like Admin UI)?
What makes it different from the existing UIs as of now?

Greetings,

Ralf

This view is for users who want to see less details than which p2 developers wants to see. And for the users who likes interact with a dashboard style UI (something similar to synaptic package manager) rather than a wizard style UI which is there in the current update UI.

I always though that the normal update manager was already a poweruser
UI ...
and what was really needed was an UI for a normal user.

I could update manager that gives you one large list of features showing
version, name and a large icon (>24px) for each plugin. Possibly a
description below the name or in a tooltip. Allowing users to install
and uninstall features by just ticking a checkbox before the picture...

Something simple like that allowing simple installing and uninstalling
of plugins.
