Some OS's provide inconsistent capitalisation for user IDs, so, for example, my user ID, entered at login as Mark, may be provided to OSEE as Mark, mark, or MARK, depending on the computer I am logging in to.

This is a problem for OSEE, as it sees these as three different users.

Is it possible for me to enter more than one name in the "User Id" attribute for a user, using something like commas to seperate, to get round this OS problem?

To me, this sounds like an argument for making User IDs case insensitive.

That would definitely resolve the problem, but would there be a risk of annoying Unix/Linux folk for whom case sensitivity may be a legitimate way of differentiating users?

How about having case sensitive user IDs, but case insensitive lookup for clients running Windows?

That sounds like the best solution. Thanks Ryan (and sorry for the delay in this post - I had already done so but it got lost for some reason).

I have raised bugzilla https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=313415 to request this
