Hey guys,

I'm trying to work out if there is a way to model Java Generics in UML2 with UML2 tools.

I can't seem to find anything that points me in that direction.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for that. I read it properly this time, and started to get it going, which is great.

I'm now trying to convert my ECore into UML.

I downloaded the Examples from http://www.eclipse.org/modeling/mdt/downloads/

Installed, restarted Eclipse... and I cannot find the 'Sample Ecore Editor > Convert to UML Model...' menu item which is described.

Am I going crazy, or has it been moved to somewhere else?

Mark,

You'd need to create a GenModel for the Ecore model and then use Export
Model... from the context menu of the root object in the Generator.

You can use EMF or UML directly. For example if you decide to write generics in your java code then you will have your model undated using round trip internal mechanism which has already been developped by one of the tool vendors.

It is simple to use and graphically very nice. It is not free or open source but don't forget that we all need to make our living from our work because for example integrators get paid by their customers using the tool we develop !!

I found this 90s video on the generics with EclipseUML Omondo.
The UML modeling is really very simple even for beginner level users.
