Where does Eclipse store other workspaces? [message #504297]

Hello,

with File/Switch Workspace other workspaces, created, are displayed for
selection.
Where, i. e. in which configuration file, are these entries of workspace
directories stored?

I work with Eclipse 3.4.2 in Windows XP.

Check the <eclipse_root>/configuration/.settings/org.eclipse.ui.ide.prefs

By the way, in Eclipse 3.5 there is UI in the Preferences that lets you
control this list; just type "workspaces" in the search field in the
Preferences dialog (this is shameless self-promotion, since I
contributed the code for that :-)

Can you possibly help me? I would like to know if it is possible to configure Eclipse so that each user can setup his/her own default workspace that comes up when they start up eclipse each time instead of a shared one? The fact that the preferences are saved in a single file in the
<eclipse_root>configurations/.settings folder seems to imply this will not work. But, I am certain it was working for us properly 5 months ago and now no longer works. We are using Ganymede on a Linux machine. It may be that an update to the intel C++ compiler messed things up for us.

Thanks for the suggestion. But that actually is our condition right now. Only one user "owns" the eclipse folders/files. And when anybody else uses Eclipse, they READ from that one .prefs file which has that other user's preferences in it. And since this other user cannot WRITE to that file/folder, their personal settings do not get saved anywhere. It would be nice if each user had an Eclipse folder in their home directory where their personal settings/preferences could be stored.

Unfortunately, I am trying to "fix" our system. It used to work fine in scenario #3 configuration. Each individual user could choose there own workspace and Eclipes would honor that each time they brought it up. And each workspace was in a separate area, not shared by multiple users. But now, something on our system changed (likely by IT dept) and now it no longer works. Trying to figure out what they did and how to reverse it. We may be better off just re-installing eclipse, but I do not want to lose customizations we may have made and forgotten about.
