Losing clicks and redraws on Ubuntu Karmic with Eclipse 3.5? [message #484524] Tue, 08 September 2009 02:05 Go to next message

Hello,

I'm having a problem with Galileo on Ubuntu Karmic Koala. The two things
I've noticed are:

1) The "Open perspective" icon does not respond to single clicks. I need
to double click it.

2) The contents of the "Name|Version" table under "Help -> Install New
Software..." is only visible if I maximise and un-maximise the window.

Any ideas on how to track this down?

The behaviour is the same with and without Compiz enable.

Thanks.
Ashley

What version of GTK+ are you two on? 2.17.x? Try downgrading to 2.16.x if
possible (though that probably won't be easy). There have been several
bugs related to GTK+ 2.17.x recently.

Remy

Thanks for reply.

I'm using gtk2 v.2.17.11-1ubuntu1. It' seems I cannot downgrade back to 2.16. Hope it will be fixed before karmic official release.

I have encountered the same problem this week running Eclipse 3.5.1 Platform Runtime Binary (from http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/R-3.5.1- 200909170800/download.php?dropFile=eclipse-platform-3.5.1-li nux-gtk.tar.gz) on Karmic Koala (Ubuntu 9.10).

It seems that several buttons do nothing when clicked on. Also the software installation sources list shows nothing unless the window is resized.

Assuming that nothing changes, Karmic will be released in about 3 weeks with GTK 2.18 (libgtk2.0-0 ver 2.18.2-1) and exhibiting this problem when running the latest Eclipse release.

An existing Eclipse bug #287307 describes this problem: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=287307

Likewise the GTK folks know about it (see http://git.gnome.org/cgit/gtk+/commit/?id=a79f929dd6c89fceea f0d9039e5a10cad9d87d2f)

I "worked around" the issue by switching to the Eclipse 3.6 integration build, which resolved the non-working buttons. However the "Install new software" bug is still present.

I've also found the clicking the button then hitting the Enter key allows it to move forward.

I am having the same problem with some buttons not doing anything - specifically the find/replace buttons. I can hit the enter key sometimes and it will work like the previous poster said.
