Can anyone recommend which route to go for creating an SWT based
application that will need to have an OpenGL Composite, so to speak? I
know it is an open ended question, but we will be starting from scratch
and just trying to get advice on what are the best widgets out there to
begin looking at. (btw, we're new to OpenGL but not SWT)

I appreciate any advice..

A good place to start is the SWT snippets for OpenGL:
