Hello all together,

I have a small question, when will babel build the next time (no nightly
build)?

In advance thank you for the response times.

Sincerely

We will rebuild the Galileo language packs when Galileo SR1 is released
(which will be soon) and the Helios stream of Nightly Builds is
currently planned via bug http://bugs.eclipse.org/289376 .

Is SR1 also going to address this bug (which affects Babel significantly,
but its source lies elsewhere according to follow-up links I put there, the
issue was "closed" by WTP, but the problem is still out there for all of
Eclipse, especially Babel ;-/)
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=288030

Thanks,
Werner

I reopened 288030 but phrased the WTP relation out.
Since it happens in other places, too. And every Galieo distro that is
applied the "basic" Babel translations (tried that with German, I don't
suppose it is language-dependant though)

I saw Galileo went 3.5.1, but as the mentioned bug has not been closed, I
assume it is still in there, too?;-)

(unless it was fixed elsewhere without notifying Babel or checking
Bugzilla...?)

Hi,

we stumbled across this bug, too. Right now, I fixed the language pack
manually and rebuilt it here. Do you have a date for the 3.5.1 language
packs already?

I wouldn't roll out a new target if the next lang packs are a week away.

Thanks and regards,
Stefan

Stefan, Galileo (Eclipse 3.5.0) language packs should work for Galileo SR1 (Eclipse 3.5.1) also. The rebuild of language packs for Galileo SR1 is just to pick up newer translations since Galileo.

What and how did you fix the language packs manually? Can you share that with us? Maybe you can contribute to the Babel project?

Hello

We currently use the Babel packs with build id '3.5.0.v20090620043401'.
There is a bug, where the format-type string was translated into German,
which causes an Exception when opening the problems view. This bug is
known: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=288030 and
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=282139

The valid translation is available, too. There was suspicion that this
problem might occur in other places as well, and therefore the bug
wasn't solved.

Right now this causes us some trouble, thats why I edited the
message-file in the JAR of the lang-pack and repaired the corrupted string.

If you plan to build within a week or so, I will not roll out my
manually fixed JAR. If you do not plan to release a build for a while, I
will use my fixed JAR and hope the bug won't reappear in other places.

Regards,
Stefan

I know one of them, as I filed or at least re-assigned it to Babel (after
WTP correctly assumed, it had no direct relation to their project)

How would a particular translation get broken or corrupted? It is basically
just strings in the first place. And while encoding or special characters
matter in some RCP apps, that should not be a problem here either. As it is
common to all translations.

Or are the scripts for "Genie" or similar tasks different for some languages
from others?

I'd be happy to understand this or even see Galileo SP1 have fewer of these
issues before I speak at ESE in about 10 days.
The challenges are certainly an interesting topic if the short session even
allows such details?

On a slightly different Babel "front" which is Multimedia Localization I am
making good progress with STEM. They got a Spanish translation and I'm
currently working on the German one with a partner who's a professional
speaker and voice over.

Regards,
Werner
