What do these plug-in instructions mean? [message #478789]

Hi,

I'm using Eclipse 3.4 (Ganymede) on Win XP. I am trying to install a
plug-in called Fortify with Eclipse. The Fortify instructions state

Select Help - Software Updates - Manage Configuration

but when I select Help and Software Updates, I don't see anything labeled
"Manage Configuration" on the next page. Any ideas what they might mean?

The next instruction is

Click "Add an Extension Location"

Those instructions are written for Eclipse 3.3 and earlier; the Software
Update UI changed dramatically in 3.4 (and again in 3.5). You should ask
the Fortify developers for instructions to install into 3.4 or 3.5 (or
if it is even compatible with those versions of Eclipse).
If you post the URL of the instructions you are trying to follow, we can
probably offer some guidance in translating the instructions.

Thanks for your reply Eric. They don't have a public URL but here are the
instructions included ...

If you have not configured the Secure Coding Plug-ins for Eclipse:
1. Open Eclipse.
2. Select Help - Software Updates - Manage Configuration.
3. Click Add an Extension Location.
4. Select <Fortify_install_directory>/plugins/eclipse.
5. Click OK.
6. Restart Eclipse, if prompted to do so.
The Fortify Software menu displays.

OK, that's pretty easy. You just need to copy what is in the <Fortify_install_directory>/plugins/eclipse directory into the dropins/ directory under your Ganymede installation and restart Eclipse. It might be required to use the -clean command-line argument the first time you restart, but probably not.
Note that there is no garauntee that these plug-ins are compatible or will function correctily with Eclipse 3.4 - you'll have to try and/or ask the vendor about that.

For eclipse 3.5 and above follow below below steps:

1. open command prompt and change directory to <Fortify Home>\plugins\eclipse\features\com.fortify.plugin.analysis\bin
2. Run eclipsepostinstall.bat
3. Select option 1 to set eclipse dir
4. Select option 2 to install
5. Install eclipse with clean option
