im trying to install eclipse on free bsd...
after compiling it, i run eclipse and it goes to a splash screen that
says: "finishing the install", it stays on this splash screen indefinitely
and takes up 90% of my cpu. I left it for an hour once to no avail, so
i'm assuming that it crashes. any ideas?

I got similiar symptoms when running the Linux-Motif build with lesstif.
Replacing lesstif with OpenMotif (which apparently implements a critical
method which lesstif only has stubbed) fixed the problem.

I would recommend checking stderr for any related error messages.

I do not have an answer.

I recommend that you pose this question on the eclipse.platform forum.
