How to extend UML without profile [message #472082] Thu, 13 December 2007 16:09 Go to next message

Hello Again,

I work on a project where i need to extend UML. I need to add some
classes to the UML.ecore, add some figures to the .GMFGraph, add some
tool to the GMFTool and modifiy de GMFMap in order to be able to work
with these new classes in the UML diagram. I know we could use the
profiles but for some reasons we choose to go without them. (i would not
explain why because it will take to long!)

I Already have all eclipse modeling tool installed (EMF, GMF, GEF, UML,
UML2Tools). I also checked out some of these project from CVS. We have
done tests with GMF and are able to create simple editors but we would
like to construct our prototype on top of UML2Tools.

I would like to know the simplest way to do this? Where to begin? How
to setup my Eclipse, my workspace? What do i need to check out from CVS?
I'm not familiar with UML2Tool. I know it work with GMF and UML2 but how
is it structure? How do you generate your code? How to build UML2Tools?

I found the folder with the GMF-models but like i said in a previous
post, i can't open the GMFMap!

Any help would be appreciate!

Thanks

Martin

Hi Martin,

The most important thing in the very beginning is to become familiar with
GMF. The best way I know to start with GMF is to read four-part GMF Tutorial
- http://wiki.eclipse.org/GMF_Tutorial. After completing the tutorial many
thing will become easier.

UML2Tools code is generated by custom 'Generate UML2Tools Diagrams' action.
This action is available in the context menu of '*.gmfgen' file if you UML2Tools
installed in your working platform.

You need to check out UMl2Tools source code from CVS.

Some important information is on our wiki page. Probably you already saw
this link, but I mention it one more time - http://wiki.eclipse.org/MDT-UML2Tools.

If you have any other question, don't hesistate to ask.

Best wishes,
Tatiana.
