Hi Lorenzo,

You are correct that there is no feature in the Eclipse help for the
action "Search in this topic". I mean, there is no icon or button to do
that action, like there is a "Show in Table of Contents" button.

If you would like such a feature, you can open a request for enhancement
(RFE) at Eclipse Bugzilla:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/query.cgi
Choose Classification = Eclipse, Product = Platform, and Component =
User Assistance.

If you are usually looking at the help contents in an external window
(like from doing menu Help->Help Contents in the Eclipse IDE), you can
do these steps to find something in the topic:

a. Set the Help preference to "Use external browser" (using
Window->Preferences and the Help preferences settings).
This will have Help->Help Contents action open your system browser and
the help contents in that browser (e.g, IE or Firefox).

Then, with the help opened in the system browser, you can use the
browser's Find to find text in a topic, by:

b. Maximize the right hand topic side of the help window, by clicking
the "Maximize" icon that's at the right hand side of the help icon
button row above the topic. That will make the browser have the whole
topic frame without the navigation frame.

c. Then use Edit->Find in this page (Firefox) to put in your text to
find in that topic page.

Hope this helps,

Hi Lee Anne

thanks for the suggestion.

entering a feature enhancement request is just the same as submitting a
bug, isn't it?

thanks
Lorenzo

Hi Lorenzo,

Actually, it looks like they updated the Eclipse Bugzilla web pages to
have a form that's for enhancements (vs bugs):

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/enter_feature.cgi

In that first page, you'd choose "Platform", and then it goes to the
form to fill out.

It looks like the distinction is that the Severity field gets set to
"enhancement" for a request of a function that doesn't currently exist.

Hope this helps,
