Hi All,

I have created uml profile with RSM(Rational Software Modeler) which uses
uml2.0 and eclipse 3.0.2.

How can I change the version of that profile because when I saving it
every time it increases the version.

Can anyone help me to change profile version number to one without editing
it manually by a text editor.

Thank You,
- Lasith

Hi Lasith,

It appears that RSM "defines" your profile after you make modifications and
save it. Try "compacting" your profile with RSM.
If this is a serious issue, you might want to raise a defect against RSM or
possibly upgrade to version 7.x.

Hope that helps.

- James.

Hi James,

Can I know how to compact profiles? or do you mean "release"?
I tried with release, but can't reduce the version number.

I think only way is I have to use a text editor to edit the profile
manually.
Also I can't find anyway to do it with RSM7.

Anyway thanks for your reply.

Thank you,
- Lasith

Hi James,

I have tried this with the "compress" option that RSM profile has, but the
result is same.

Thanks.

Hi Lasith,

I used the incorrect term previously, I meant "compress" not "compact".
If you compress, then all previous versions excluding the last one, that
are not "released" will be removed. This will not however reset the
counter to 1, it will merely continue counting from where it left off.
The notion of "released" version is strictly a RSM thing ( not opensource ).
I think that if you want to reset your counter (with a text editor for
example), it might lead to problems with other models dependent on older
versions... you would have to remember to fix up those version numbers as
well.

I would recommend "releasing" those version that are ready to be shipped and
use "compress" a lot while you are in the intermediary stage of developing
your profile. I believe RSM defines the profile after every save because
they want to make sure that the critical "define" is done before the user
wishes to use the profile. It somewhat shelters the user for the details.
The unfortunate part is that if you are paranoid (like me) and make small
changes and then save, you will have a lot of unecessary information in your
profile.

There is an article on DevWorks from Dusko Misic that explains how to work
with profiles with RSM... you might want to have a peek.

Regards,

- James
