Not sure where you found downloads for Papyrus -- I don't see any listed

Yes, you showed the links to complete package downloads for OSEE and EPF
but I can't tell if these overlap (use something in common) or are they
totally separate installations. If I install them as separate
applications, am I duplicating things or does each installation look for
what is already installed and just add what is needed?

In all three cases, the installations address as if there are no other
Eclipse apps. Again, I can't tell if there will be any interferences.

How do I find out how to efficiently coordinate these installations?

The first one, the RCP product, is an easy way to install Papyrus, without
knowing anything to the Eclipse world. This has the advantage to have

You will find here a video that shows how to use the Update menu in Papyrus.

Nota: The RCP product is a great feature provided by the eclipse framework.
Developers like us can use the eclipse platform as the core of their tool.
Then we can customize this platform to have a product which has the
look'n'feel we want (special splash screen, custom icons and menus,
remove/add menus, etc.)

The second way to have Papyrus on its computer is to use a standard Eclipse
installation. On the Eclipse download web site
(http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/), you will find some distribution of the
Eclipse tool: Eclipse for C++, Eclipse for Java, Eclipse for Modelling, etc.

To install this tool, you have to download it, and then simply dezip' it on
your computer. You will have an eclipse directory where you have dezip' it.
In this directory, you just have to launch the eclipse executable.

You can then install the papyrus tool, using the papyrusuml update site and
instruction. You do not require having Papyrus already installed on your
computer. You can install new plugins on your eclipse installation, like
EPF, Papyrus, etc.

So you can do as you want:

- Either downloading Papyrus RCP, then using the update menu to
install the other packages you need.

- Or you can also download Eclipse, install Papyrus and the other
packages you need.

The first solution should be easier, as Papyrus relies on other components
of the Eclipse platform, like EMF and UML2 packages. You already have them
in Papyrus RCP; you must install them if you install Papyrus on an existing
Eclipse installation.

To explain the Europa distribution:

Eclipse has a huge developer community, with some "official" plugins, like
UML2, EMF, Java Development Tool (JDT), etc. Each of these components relies
on the platform itself. Eclipse foundation has decided to propose major
releases, to simplify user life. In fact, some tools like EMF require a
particular version of the platform to work. The "Europa" distribution
corresponds to a particular version of the Eclipse platform.
(http://www.eclipse.org/europa/). The API of this version is locked for one
year. This means that all tools like EMF relying on this Europa distribution
will use the same API for this given period. This ensures stability for tool
development. Each year, a major release is produced like that, generally in
June. The next distribution has the name "Galileo"
(http://wiki.eclipse.org/Galileo).
