Hi all,

Many thanks for helping me establish a build with buckminster. I now have an
RCP product build which is fairly simple to bootsrap and can reproduce
previous releases. I could have not done it without this newsgroup. Although
the documentation for buckminster is excellent, and I have always
retrospectively found the asnwers I was looking for, I have struggled to
find out what I needed as I needed it. I think we could benefit from more
tutorials which teach buckminsters concepts along the way. If I get
buckminster to do everything we need I willl be replacing PDE Build with it,
and I'll need to document our new build process and also a produce a
bucminster tutorial. I'll share this with you in case you think it useful to
the community.

Congratulations on making it work!

I am very much aware of that we do not yet have an example that covers
target platform materialization yet - I just started on that.

I think it is very useful for the community to see what others have
done. There is always some new twist on things that others can take
inspiration from.

Maybe we can get a tutorial slot at the next Eclipse Con - that would
force us into producing the tutorial material for sure :) - I think it
could be a great idea to collaborate on this too.

Henrik,

Nice to hear from you. Sorry I took time responding.. I was trying to get my
automated tests working with buckminster. That now works which is a major
milestone for me and means we can use buckminster for all our builds. It's a
great tool whose design you really appreciate once you get to grips with it
but being so sophisticated means it has a learning curve... but then eclipse
builds have never been easy.

A tutorial slot at EclipseCon sounds fantastic. It's so much easier for
people to learn when they have an opportunity to do it themselves but with
an expert present. I also find that tutorials are great for improving the
product because as you try to document small steps you become aware of
features which can be refined.

So right now I need to consolidate what I've learnt. I need to clean up my
example and then I'm going to produce a tutorial which explains how to do
it. My goal for this tutorial is not to simply explain how to set up a build
but to reveal and teach parts of buckminster along the way. Inevitably this
will be focused on the way we like to organize our builds but it shouldn't
be much work to make it more generic.

Maybe the first step is for me to produce my first draft and then let you
take a look at. I'm going on a short vacation tomorrow but returning on
Sunday. I'll probably have something by the end of next week.
