Hi,

I guess it's a recurrent question but I've been looking in the forum archive or on mailing lists like eclipse.newcomers but didn't find anything interesting on the subject.

What's your recommandation for a beginner wanting to learn SWT and JFace ?

I found this book :
"SWT/JFace in Action : GUI Design with Eclipse 3.0"
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1932394273

or also this one :
"The Definitive Guide to SWT and JFACE"
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1590593251

Which one is worth the money ? Or maybe you know some others ?

Thanks

Fred

Hi, Fred.

The best place to start learning SWT is http://www.eclipse.org/swt/
The "Documentation" link on that page takes you to
http://www.eclipse.org/swt/docs.php
where there are links to books, articles, other documents, and tutorials on
SWT (and some about JFace also).
Be sure to check out the example snippets!
Welcome!
Carolyn

Hi Fred...

As previously said, go to the SWT documentation page. However, I did
find the book "SWT: A Developer's Notebook" by Tim Hatton very helpful.
You can get a brief 'how-to' here, and then go to the other
documentation sources for more details.

Regards...

Miguel.

A good starting point to get a conceptual overview is the 3-part
tutorial here:
http://www.eclipse.org/articles/Article-SWT-Design-1/SWT-Des ign-1.html

A good book about SWT is "SWT: The standard widget Toolkit" by Steve
Northover and Mike Wilson. It doesn't cover JFACE however.

I'm currently reading "SWT/JFace in action" and I'm quiet satisfied with it for the moment but I'll try the one you mention also.

Thanks

Fred
