Great question. One way would be to use BIRT's sorting and filtering
mechanism for groups
( http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/BIRT/FAQ/Data_Access#Optim izing_Filters_.26_Sorting)
since the ODA-Ecore driver does not currently support a SORT BY feature
in the OCL query itself.
Suppose you want to find all the Writers in the object graph and print
their names. In the Wizard to form the DataSet, you would choose
"Writer" from the dropdown, your query would be
"self.oclIsKindOf(Writer)" and you would choose to report on the column
"Writer::name", as you probably expect.
For the report, you could drag the Data Set from the Data Explorer to
the report. In the Detail Row, instead of using "[Writer::name]" (see
the attached screenshot unsorted_name_report.GIF for the preview
output), you would delete the Detail row, right click and select "Insert
Group". On the Group Details wizard, you could select the item to group
on (here, "Writer::name") and the type of sorting you would like to
perform (here, "Writer::name" in ascending order). For this example,
you can take a look at the attached screenshot group_details.GIF for the
configuration in this dialog. The resulting report should consistently
look like the attached screenshot sorted_name_report.GIF, in which
duplicates are removed and writers' names appear alphabetically.

Hey Eduard,

Right now the Ecore ODA Driver only supports entering boolean OCL
queries followed by the selection of columns on the next wizard page.
One of the major enhancements we would like to do would be to support a
full OCL query that would identify columns within the query itself.
Another benefit of this feature would presumably be support for sorting
within the OCL expression.

No guarantees on if or when we'd implement this feature but it's
something we'd like to do. In the meantime, Tim's response will
hopefully help!

Great question. One way would be to use BIRT's sorting and filtering
mechanism for groups
( http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/BIRT/FAQ/Data_Access#Optim izing_Filters_.26_Sorting)
since the ODA-Ecore driver does not currently support a SORT BY feature
in the OCL query itself.
Suppose you want to find all the Writers in the object graph and print
their names. In the Wizard to form the DataSet, you would choose
"Writer" from the dropdown, your query would be
"self.oclIsKindOf(Writer)" and you would choose to report on the column
"Writer::name", as you probably expect.
For the report, you could drag the Data Set from the Data Explorer to
the report. In the Detail Row, instead of using "[Writer::name]" (see
the attached screenshot unsorted_name_report.GIF for the preview
output), you would delete the Detail row, right click and select "Insert
Group". On the Group Details wizard, you could select the item to group
on (here, "Writer::name") and the type of sorting you would like to
perform (here, "Writer::name" in ascending order). For this example,
you can take a look at the attached screenshot group_details.GIF for the
configuration in this dialog. The resulting report should consistently
look like the attached screenshot sorted_name_report.GIF, in which
duplicates are removed and writers' names appear alphabetically.

Hey Eduard,

Right now the Ecore ODA Driver only supports entering boolean OCL
queries followed by the selection of columns on the next wizard page.
One of the major enhancements we would like to do would be to support a
full OCL query that would identify columns within the query itself.
Another benefit of this feature would presumably be support for sorting
within the OCL expression.

No guarantees on if or when we'd implement this feature but it's
something we'd like to do. In the meantime, Tim's response will
hopefully help!
