Hi,

We are starting the development of a large application using RAP. An
important requirement of our application is to have editable cells. I know
that jface cell editor are not planed for 1.0 but I would like to have an
time estimate for implementing it, since we are considering doing it
ourselves.

From your knowlege, can you point any dificulties that we may encounter? We
have already implemented a few demo widgets, so we already have some
knowledge of RAP.

Thanks

Tiago

Hi,

sorry that my answer took a while, but time-estimations are a difficult
topic and I just had to talk this over with some of the people developing
the components of interest (table and tree). Unfortunately I think that
comming up with an solution that solves cell-editors in the way RCP does,
would need some additional infrastructure that isn't in place yet.
MouseEvents and KeyStrokes are used for activation of the cell-editors and
that's something we roughly planned for 1.1 (hopefully in January). Also
tree and table must provide information about size and location of the cells
that should be covered by the celleditors widget. From our point of view
creation of this infrastructure needs a deep knowledge of the current widget
implementations. We do not have a schedule for that right now - maybe 1.2.
With this in place the possitioning of the the cell-editor's widget should
be possible.

Using this assumptions, we would estimate one or two man months for
implementing cell-editors inside the RAP team. It is difficult to say what
kind of shortcuts could be taken by a team outside of RAP that implements an
intermediate solution for the time being (if possible). Of course we would
appreciate any kind of contributions that would help providing a
functionality like cell-editors earlier.

Ciao
Frank

I've seen that qooxdoo has text cell editors and it looks like more
general editor support is on the way:

http://www.nabble.com/ComboBox-als-CellEditorFactory-in-qx.u i.table.Table-t4402915.html

Could qooxdoo cell edit events be sent to RAP server side and hooked
into RAP widget lifecycle ?

Hi Frank,

Thanks for your reply, we are going to analyze a viable aproach as we realy
would like to use RAP in our project and this is the only feature that's
missing. Keep you posted. Thanks.
