Final connectivity usability design for review until 4/11 [message #43572] Fri, 04 April 2008 14:18 Go to next message

Hi all...

I've posted a new Wiki page that documents the updated usability work we've
done for DTP Connectivity UI in Ganymede. Unless there are fervent
objections, these will be the changes that are delivered into the main DTP
codeline for our 1.6 release. These changes will require minimal work by
adopters and I will make sure that it's as little as possible. But I believe
the risk is well worth the reward in simplified usability for both users and
adopters.

The Wiki page is at: http://wiki.eclipse.org/Connectivity_Usability_Ganymede

As I spell out at the top of that page, "The Plan" is as follows:
>Please leave comments in this bug: [BZ 225651 [1]]

>You have until Friday, April 11 to submit comments. On Monday, April, 14, I
>will start delivering code into the DTP Ganymede code stream.

Pretty simple. By documenting any comments/criticisms in the bug, we should
have better accountability going forward. If you don't have BugZilla access,
you can reply to either the eclipse-dtp newsgroup or dtp-dev mailing list.
But if you do have BZ access, I'd rather capture your comments there.

Thank you so much for all the great feedback we had for the first round of
design and again at the BoF at EclipseCon last month. All of it has been
greatly appreciated.

So I look forward to your comments!

Hi all!

Just as a quick update. I have delivered the changes discussed into the main
codeline today. They should appear in tomorrow's build (4/17). Give them a
spin and let me know if you find any issues.

Thanks for everybody's support and feedback along the way. We'll go through
another of these processes for the next major release as everyone knows that
usability is never really "done" -- it's just "done for now"!
