Due to the announcement of the Java Persistence Platform project (which
contains a JPA implementation), we are concerned about our current project
namespace of "org.eclipse.jpa", which is used in Dali project and package
names.

Originally we planned on being part of the JST subproject(jst.jpa), but
for a
number of reasons it made more sense to remain a direct subproject of WTP.
As
a result, our namespace would be the above mentioned "org.eclipse.jpa"
under
normal naming conventions. This wouldn't have been a problem, but with the
recent announcement of the Java Persistence Platform, it seems that our
namespace of org.eclipse.jpa could conflict with a natural namespace of
this
new project, and would likely be confusing to future Eclipse developers.
Our
thinking is that we need to emphasize the tooling aspect of the project in
the
namespace, which could be achieved by adding a 't' into our acronym, so
moving
from "jpa" to "jpt". This would represent the Dali JPA Tools in three
letter
form, with the critical 't' for tooling inserted.

As this is a non-trivial task, and it is fairly late in the release cycle
for
1.0, we would like to have adopters express their opinions about the
change.

Let us know if this is going to be a major disruption for you, or whether
you
think it is a good idea and worth doing now before the 1.0 release goes
out.
Please visit bug 181863
(https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=181863)
and post your comments (positive or negative) there.

Thanks,
Neil
