i have downloaded the new emf, emf-xsd-sdo-SDK-I200404080727, and the
new eclipse sdk, eclipse-SDK-I20040407-linux-gtk. the new emf and the
older emf, emf-xsd-sdo-SDK-I200403250631, both run fine with m8,
eclipse-SDK-I20040326-linux-gtk (the first two configurations below).
neither the new emf nor the older emf allow me to load the same xsd
files (no details available, just the red x) when run with the new
eclipse, eclipse-SDK-I20040407-linux-gtk, (the second two
configurations below).

Hi,

We've only tested against M8. Does it work for that latest Eclipse
Window's integration driver, but not with the one for Linux? Have you
checked the workspace/.metadata/.log for clues?

This is the stack trace that the Crimsom DOM implementation produces I know there was talk about removing the org.apache.xerces plugin. Perhaps it's
gone in that driver. You'll need to specify a non-buggy DOM implementation to make this work.

Is there an org.apache.xerces plugin in the Eclipse driver that you have? There's been talk of removing it, so maybe that's happened now, in which case the
workaround won't work because there's no directory where it's pointing. You just need to point at a directory with the jars that are in the Xerces plugin,
or some other good implementation of JAXP.

emf-xsd does load schemas when i have downloaded xerces from apache.org
as in the following configuration.
it would also be easier for me and other dummies if you would be more
explicit in your explanations. phrases like "You'll need to specify a
non-buggy DOM implementation", "some other good implementation of JAXP",
and "Frank,
The file example you show looks like an XMI serialization of an instance
that should be serialized as XML. Following the tutorial steps, a file
like this is produced:" would be more meaningful if you stated something
like "xerces from apache.org" and if you named the tutorial you are
referencing.

thank you
norwood sisson

cd $HOME/m8a
unzip -q eclipse-SDK-I20040407-linux-gtk
unzip -q emf-xsd-sdo-SDK-I200404080727 -d eclipse
unzip -q GEF-SDK-I20040408 -d eclipse
unzip -q GEF-examples-I20040408 -d eclipse
unzip -q Xerces-J-bin.2.6.2 -d eclipse/plugins
cd eclipse
../eclipse -vm /home/nerd/j2sdk1.4.2_04/bin/java -vmargs -mx256m -ms128m

Norwood,

Your point is well taken. I'm often very stretched for time and am too impatient to specify background that may or may not be needed. I do try to respond quickly
so that follow up questions will get a quick reply.

You'll need to specify a non-buggy DOM implementation to make this work.

if -Djava.endorsed.dirs=plugins/org.apache.xerces_4.0.13
does not specify a non-buggy DOM implementation, what will?

thank you
