hi all,

in my theses, I'm writing a program which offers a domain specific view
on an uml-model. E.g. there's a tool called Enterprise Architect (EA)
which offers gui-modeling in uml. In EA a they change the visual
representation of a class from uml notation e.g. to a button depending
on it's stereotype. It lacks constraints which would be useful for these
kind of app ... like a table/ button can be in a button. Are there other
tools which offer a similar domain specific view on an uml-model?

SKuhn,

I'd expect this capability to be offered by any tool that claims to provide
full support for UML profiles. One such tool is IBM's Rational Software
Architect/Modeler, for example; I'm sure there are others...

hi kenn,

thanks for you answer. Maybe I didn't formulate my question correctly.
To reword it: Is there a _language workbench supporting uml2+stereotypes_?

In other words: What I try to achieve is more or less my own -domain
specific- diagram type. It'll just show a special set of elements, ease
editing them and support e.g. diagram partitioning and constraints where
it's useful.

hi kenn,

with language workbench I mean a tool(set) which supports me in creating
a (visual) language e.g. GMF.

In my case, I'm using GMF to display a class w/ sterotype <<button>> as
a button, and <<window>> as a window. Windows are composites. Just
connections between stereotypes are shown- everything else is blanked.

The point is that GMF (Codegen) focuses on DSLs with their own
Metamodel, not on UML models enriched with Profiles/Stereotypes. Because
of that the creation of a DSL Editor based on uml2 is a bit cumbersome.
I was wondering if a tool that focuses on creating DSL Editors based on
stereotypes is available.

hi kenn,

these are good news for me- at least I didn't miss to find it :)
By the way, does anybody know if someone realized the same approach as I
did: building a DSL-Editor based on UML+Stereotypes? I've just seen
Enterprise Architect doing it, but it doesn't focus on it so the
functionality is limited (put window in button)

Hi stefan,

perhaps an easiest way to achieve your goal is to have your DSL editor
built (generated) upon a metamodel (with GMF for instance) and then
develop the metamodel2UMLProfile transformation so that you can store
the model as a UML profiled model...

Ah, I see now. I'm not aware of such a tool, but maybe someone else is...

hi kenn,

these are good news for me- at least I didn't miss to find it :)
