I have several workspaces - unfortunately due to how our SVN was set up.

How can I use different workspaces (only running one eclipse instance at
a time) and point them all to the same backup mylyn area and not go
through the import issue that I am currently having with my drive
mapping issue? (previous posting "import task backup list"

Thanks in advacne

You can specify location of the task list data directory at Window /
Preferences / Mylyn / Task List / Task Data (advanced) / Data Directory

I did that and when I did I got prompted to create new overwrite yes/no
(I believe) or load. I didn't select overwrite but yet my tasklist.xml
etc were overwritten. so I am left with the data backup zip files plus
new xml files for the tasklist etc.... Those should not have been over
written

I am not sure what you mean by "your files", because all of task lists
are yours and there was two sets of those (one per workspace). It is
possible that Mylyn's warning is simply confusing, because it simply
points task list to the new directory, so nothing to overwrite really.
I've used this quite long time ago and that time it worked fine. Though
this feature been marked as advanced, because it is relatively easy to
mess it up, but usually it should be possible to restore old task list
by changing date folder back and in worst case, restore task list from
backup.
Anyways, if you don't think it is working as it should, please submit
a bug.

regards,
Eugene

I unzipped the backup file from Monday.
tasklist.xml
respositories.xml
contexts\
and placed them in a new
\BKUP\eclipse\mylyn\ directory

My Eclipse Mylyn preferences points to this backup directory

When I re-enter Eclipse my tasks are empty...
There are no repositories listed when viewing the tasks repository view

I just got the server restored for eclipse\mylyn
When I invoked Eclipse nothing is the same (i.e. lost all repository
task stuff. Even the local task repository is empty. The repository
from the SVN server is not even listed as a repository.)

You shouldn't be manually unzipping task list files. Use "Restore
Tasks from History..." action from in the Task List or wizard at File /
Import / Mylyn / Task Data (use backup selection).

Note that the instructions and warnings on using Mylyn with multiple
workspaces are at:

There may be some confusion in the messages below, so please note that
importing is not the same as sharing the data directory. I've added a
note and some cautions about this to the FAQ entry.

Preferences / Mylyn / Task List / Task Data (advanced) / Data Directory

I unzipped the backup file from Monday.
tasklist.xml
respositories.xml
contexts\
and placed them in a new
\BKUP\eclipse\mylyn\ directory

My Eclipse Mylyn preferences points to this backup directory

When I re-enter Eclipse my tasks are empty...
There are no repositories listed when viewing the tasks repository view

You shouldn't be manually unzipping task list files. Use "Restore
Tasks from History..." action from in the Task List or wizard at File /
Import / Mylyn / Task Data (use backup selection).

D,

Note that the instructions and warnings on using Mylyn with multiple
workspaces are at:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Mylyn_FAQ#What_if_I_use_multiple_wor kspaces.3F

There may be some confusion in the messages below, so please note that
importing is not the same as sharing the data directory. I've added a
note and some cautions about this to the FAQ entry.
