Hello all

I am new to the tool, but I must recognise I am enjoying it.

Nevertheless, there is a problem that is getting me crazy. It is about
activity detail diagrams, concretely, trying to create them.

Under what conditions can an activity detail diagram be created? The help
does not concrete this. Besides, I made an experiment whose results are
puzzling.

I go to the library view, to a process WBS, select an iteraction with tasks
and try to create this activity detail diagram by right clicking and
navigating in the popup. The creation option for these diagrams in this
scenario is disabled.

I go to the capability patterns and create a pattern. Under the pattern I
create several tasks. Following, I try to create an activity detail diagram
the same way, this time the option is enabled. Then I create an activity
and try the same again. The option is enabled still. I switch the tab and
get back to the WBS. I try again to create the activity detail diagram
through the popup and this time, while being the same configuration, the
creation option is disabled.

So at this point, and after this wandering, you can understand my confusion
and the original question: when activity detail diagrams can be created?

I will appreciate any help you can provide.

Regards

Jorge

Hello. Good points.
Personally, I never create activity detail diagrams (ADD) because I like
their default layout that RMC automatically creates for me. All I do is to
select the option Preferences -> Method -> Publishing and Browsing ->
Activity Diagram -> Publish ADDs that have not been created in the process
editor. Then all activities that have task descriptors are published with a
diagram.

The reason to create such diagram is if you manually want to adjust the
layout of these diagrams, which is actually quite limited. The rules are as
follows. The menu is inactive when:
- the plugin is locked
- the activity does not contain any task descriptors
- the activity is linked from a pattern and displayed in green color (i.e.
you do not have write access; you must update the source pattern)

Hope this helps and keep the feedback coming,
Peter.

Thanks for the answer, Peter

Finally I discovered the problem.

There is a fourth reason for not showing the option: an incomplete task
descriptor. In my case, I had not assigned a role to the task descriptor. I
missed it because I had added previously a role to the task. When the task
has an assigned role, inputs and outputs, and you create a task descriptor,
the task descriptor does not acquire the role, though it acquires the
outputs and inputs.

And if the ADD creation option is not enabled, no ADD are created by
default, despite the other checkbox in the preferences or in the publishing
wizard.

Now that I discovered this, ADDs are enabled everywhere.

Regards

Jorge

OK. I realize now the "Default synchronization" entry in the popup menu on
the WBS. It updates task descriptors with recent changes applied in the
tasks.

Why is this way? Why not an automatic update?

Because a user might have put a lot of work into changing or updating the
layout for this particular occurence. If you want automatic updates then
just delete the diagram (right-click->delete) it will use the inherited one
for publishing if possible.

Peter.
