Dear Papyrus Users,

[Edit] proposed RCPs have been modified the 3rd of July, The previously available versions were the 2022-12 RCP but named 2024-06-6.7.0 We are sorry for this mistake. :-(

The new Papyrus release (Papyrus 6.7) on Eclipse 2024-06 is now available.
You can install it from a fresh Eclipse Committers, or from this update site [1].
You can also download a Papyrus 6.7 RCP [2]

Important : This release is the last release based on GMF (for Diagrams) and on XWT (for Property Views).

The next release will be based on Sirius (Diagrams) and EEF (Property View).

So, the Papyrus team is proud to announce you that the next Papyrus version will be a major version, called Papyrus 7.0.
This new version is planned for for Eclipse 2024-12 and should contain:

  • new version of the diagrams, based on the Eclipse Sirius framework
  • new version of the Property Views, base on EEF
  • deletion of Papyrus-GMF Diagram
  • deletion of Papyrus XWT Property Views
  • the ElementTypes framework will removed and replaced by the new library UML-DomainService, in charge of the UML edition. By the way, many Papyrus frameworks will be impacted by this change (new Child Menu, Architecture Framework, Table/Matrix, ...)
  • for the user, a migration tool will be provided to migrate your GMF diagrams instances to Sirius diagrams instances

Given the extent and number of changes, please note that December 2024 is a tentative target date. If needed the migration process will continue on 2025.

You already can test the new diagrams and new Property Views on your fresh Papyrus installation.
To get them, you need to install the add-on Papyrus-Sirius from this update site [3].
With this add-on, you will have the 2 versions of the diagrams and the 2 versions of the Property Views in the same installation [4].
Papyrus Sirius based diagrams can be created from the ModelExplorer with a specific menu [5] .
Papyrus EEF Property views are activated by default. To switch between EEF and XWT you need to close your current property view, then to go in the Eclipse Preferences -> Papyrus->Property UI -> and select EEF or XWT, then you can reopen your property view. [6]

Will there be any documentation available to support migrating third-party plugins depending on the current representation of Papyrus-diagram in GMF? Or will there be any guidelines available on how to programtically do common tasks with Papyrus Diagrams represented in Sirius (e.g. creation, deletion, adding elements and relationships, etc.)?

Hello Thomas,
currently we don't have documentation for the migration of plugins based on GMF to Sirius. We should start to write a such document in September, basint us on concrete usecases.

Basically, we use the Sirius odesign configuration file to describe the diagrams and we wrote very few custom code compared to the current Papyrus GMF Diagram implementation.

Regards,
Vincent
