Dear Eclipse Foundation,

big fan of eclipse editor, imho it does a lot right:

- the compare functionality is THE best (hotkeys to copy changes from left to right or right to left sometimes not working per default)
- EXCELLENT that eclipse fully supports php :) (wordpress + everything that is web is making still heavy use of it, while being not the fastest language, but still faster than many)

problems:

- software minimalism wise eclipse is a bit "crowded" (software minimalism is good for security & performance)
- but it seems to have gotten a bit faster over the last years? (on an i5 it still takes ~15sec after clicking apply in the settings dialogue)
- switching editor tabs: proposal, why not make it like Mozilla Firefox? (Alt+1 = Tab1, Alt+2 = Tab2, Alt+3 = Tab3...)
- realized port incompatibility of xdebug + eclipse php:
latest eclipse wants to connect to xdebug per default on port 9000
latest xdebug wants to connect to eclipse per default on por 9003

don't take this too negative imho it's a great editor

The PHP Development Tools project is not very active in terms of any new development effort:

https://www.eclipse.org/pdt/
https://github.com/eclipse/pdt

If you need things to be improved in PHP or in the IDE in general, probably the only way (and certainly the best way) is to get involved or to sponsor someone to get involved on your behalf.
