Hello,

I am a Teamcenter administrator and currently we are using Teamcenter version 11.5 which is based on Eclipse 3.8.

One of the topics I am currently involved is chaging the default browser Teamcenter is using (Internet Explorer) to Edge or Chrome.

After contacting Teamcenter support, they pointed out that this is handled by Eclipse and not something custom by Siemens.

They've told me that I should just add the VM argument
"-Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser" with a correct browser version and it will work, but they did not know to tell me which version of Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome is compatible with Eclipse 3.8.

Can someone help me with further info on this topic?
I have added as a screenshot the message I got from Teamcenter support.

Thank you and best regards,
Alex

As far as I know, only values "edge" and "ie" are supported on Windows. You can find more details here:

Hi Ed,

Thank you for the message.
From what I can see in the link you provided, the fix there is for Eclipse 4.19.
I tried adding -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=edge and -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=ie but nothing changed.

Based on the feedback I got from Teamcenter support concerning compatibilities I am starting to think that without some customization it is not possible to adapt chromium based browsers like Edge or Chrome for Eclipse 3.8.

I will continue searching for a solution.

I know that someone else got it working:

Apparently you have to install the "WebView2 runtime"....

Hi Ed,

I could not get it working.
I installed WebView2 Runtime but Teamcenter still opens all links with Internet Explorer even if -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=edge VM argument is added.

I have tried something else:
- downloaded Eclipse 4.21
- added in the eclipse.ini the -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=edge
This resulted that in Eclipse 4.21 I can see that the default browser is edge, after the VM argument has been added.

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=538991
What I see here is applicable starting with Eclipse 4.19 and the current Teamcenter version we are using is based on Eclipse 3.8, so this fix is not applicable to it.
