I was able to install the Java 17 patch on Eclipse 2021-09

It was not easy by the way.

After install the following is missing:
JDK Compliance: Java Compiler Level 17
Java Execution Environment: JavaSE-17

Java 16 is the highest I can select on these two.
I can select Java 17 on Java Facets only.

Getting Java 17 support in JDT requires installing an additional feature from the Marketplace:
https://marketplace.eclipse.org/content/java-17-support-eclipse-2021-09-421

This should be straight forward. If you have any issue, you better ask on the JDT forum.
