Eclipse won't start Macbook Pro (Catalina) [message #1844376]

Hi! I'm new to eclipse, and I'm trying to download it onto my macbook pro 2015 currently running the Catalina system.

The message I have received is:
An error has ocurred.
See the log file /Users/xxx/Downloads/workspace/.metadata/.log.

Googling and clicking into a million websites did not solve my problem. In fact, I can't even see anything in the workspace folder, it's empty! Now I'm stuck, how do I identify the problem on my mac if I can't even see the .metadata folder?

I have been trying for the past 2 hours with errors coming one after another. can't download Java legacy, not the 1.8.0 version downloaded, and now this.

WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT! T_T

Anyways, here's a screenshot if you need more info. Please help me...

Press Cmd+Shift+. in the Finder window to reveal the directory and file names that start with '.', then look at the contents of the log file as directed,

Such an old version of Eclipse 4.6.3.M20170301-0400 from years ago is doesn't work with a such new version of Java 16.0.2 and even if that weren't already a problem, likely the old version of SWT won't work on this newer version of MacOS. Install a recent version:

I did more research and did the same as you instructed and downloaded java JDK 8, also deleted the other versions, and now it's working! Thank you everyone
