I'm not sure why I can't find the solution in whole internet, it should common problem.

I use the Eclipse for Java Editor, the version is

Version: 2020-09 (4.17.0)
Build id: 20200910-1200

When I like replace some string in the editor, I'll select the string that I want to been replace and type new string immediately, in older version Eclipse, the editor will delete the selected string then show the new string at the same place, but it become insert the new string front selected string, how can I change it to old style?

Sounds like a bug in Eclipse or a no longer supported platform. Which OS are you using? And if it is Linux, which GTK version are you using?

Might it be related to the "Smart Insert" versus Overwrite setting in the status bar area (or Smart Insert Mode on the Edit menu)?

Hi
thx for your reply, I tried, no matter"Smart Insert" or "Override"(the status show on the button of eclipse), it still not delete selected string, it override the text from first selected text, remain text still there while Override, is it only I encountered the situation on Win10?

thx for your reply, I use win10 and coding for Java, the situation happen on new version, the Oxygen version still fine.
