Hi there,

I ran into problems in installing Xtext from the update site (and also from installing RobotTool [1] which comes with Xtest), I got the following error:

An error occurred while collecting items to be installed
session context was:(profile=_Users_will_epsilon-master2_Eclipse.app_Contents_Eclipse, phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Collect, operand=, action=).

it could be a problem with your inet connection or a downtime of the server.
did you try to download the update zip and install from there?

Hi Christian,

The problem persists when installing from a local archive, perhaps something wrong with the build? Could you please verify?

Hi Christian,

I am trying to install Xtext into Eclipse Epsilon 2.2 [1], with the hope to use RobotTool which depends on Xtext. I tried both using the update site and the archive, but still got the same problem.

I am running on a MacBook Pro, but I'm currently located inside China, could this be a problem?

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Will

Hi, you can get Epsilon from the Eclipse Installer, instructions can be found in [1].

I have checked the .zip file and the stuff is there.

Cheers,
Will

Hi,

I tried using the update site [1], as well as the archived one downloaded from the link you provided. I had the same problem in both ways.

Thanks for your time on this, really appreciate it.

Cheers,
Will

Hi

Once you sort out the basic install issue, you may hit further problems. Xtext as a consumer provides backward compatibility, but Xtext as a generator does not provide forward compatibility. Therefore for those Xtext versions that introduce breaking API changes editors generated on old Xtext are broken on new Xtext. Robotool does not appear to specify an Xtext version, so presumably something around its 2009 release date might be appropriate.

(If you study the Xtext compatibility support in Eclipse OCL, you can generate Xtext editors that are compatible across many many releases.).

Regards

Ed Willink
