I tried to update eclipse in ubuntu 20.04 LTS, but was stopped by this error:
'Update Software' has encountered a problem. An error occurred while uninstalling
The detail is as follows:
An error occurred while uninstalling
session context was:(profile=epp.package.java, phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Uninstall, operand=[R]org.eclipse.rcp_root 4.14.0.v20191210-0610 --> null, action=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.touchpoint.natives.actions.CleanupzipAction).
Backup of file /snap/eclipse/48/readme/readme_eclipse.html failed.
File that was copied to backup could not be deleted: /snap/eclipse/48/readme/readme_eclipse.html

I guess it is due to the snap read-only system as I cannot remove the mentioned file manually. Running eclipse as root and updating also causes the same error obviously because the file cannot also be removed with the root permission.

You'll need to talk to whomever created this snap package.

Are snap packages intended to be upgraded in ways other than picking up a newer version of the snap?

I really don't know what snap is and how it is upgraded. I haven't upgraded that manually. I use Ubuntu LTS and it is upgraded by the system (if it is!)
