Hi, I am currently running 4DIAC 1.11.2 under Ubuntu 18.4 and I am getting errors while trying to run the automatic updates. Am I missing a setting somewhere? The images attached show the errors that are being reported.

I searched the forum but I could not find a similar error being reported.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer. Happy New Year !!!
Cheers,
Barry.

Hi, could it be the case that your update url is set wrongly? https://download.eclipse.org/4diac/updates/latest/ should be the right one

Hi Kirill,
Thanks for the suggestion. I already have that setup correctly in the Install/Update options but it looks like when I run the update, it is not using that preference. Most strange...

Issue solved or partially so.

Thinking more about what Kirill suggested, I added the site https://download.eclipse.org/4diac/updates/latest/ in via the Help | Install New Software menu option in 4Diac. The update worked fine so it is not an issue with the update site.

I don't remember having to do that in previous releases (e.g. 1.10.x) under Linux but I could be wrong.

Thanks for digging into this. I've seen this once in a while. However I always thought it is the problem on the update site. With your feedback we can narrow it down to the 4diac IDE side. I'll created an according bug report [1].

I also spend more time on reading how to correctly configure the 4diac IDE side and found one potential issue. The problem I have is how to test it. Because it would need at least to releases to test it. Any tips how we shold proceed?

Thanks for looking into this Alois,

I am running 4diac 1.11.3 on an Oracle Virtual Box under Ubuntu here at AUT University as part of my research here.

It is easy for me to clone or back up my current system - I am happy to help with testing, including reverting to earlier versions that we can then update if that helps.

I would love an opportunity to learn more about the insides of 4diac.

Thanks a lot for your offer. This is very kind.

The problem as I see it is that currently we can only really test it with real releases. I hoped that I can somehow manually tweak my downloaded version but couldn't find where. A proposal that I could see is to make a 1.11.4 release with some fixes (we currently have, including my proposal) in the next days and then a 1.11.5 by end of jan. And with the 1.11.5 we should know if my proposed fix is working. Or did I miss anything?

Maybe, one can build one of the previous releases (say, 1.11.1 or 1.11.2) from source and see if your proposed changes to p2.inf make any difference when updating to 1.11.3.

This sounds like a very good idea. I'll give it a try.

I did the experiment as proposed by Kirill. With that I could correctly update a modified 1.11.2 self-build version to 1.11.3. Based on that I would close the bug and with the next release this issue should be fixed.

Thanks again Barry for pointing us into the right direction. I hope that you can support us in the future as well!

Thank you Kirill and Alois,

I am glad that we have found a solution. Teamwork wins !!!!

My research is on building fault diagnostics and fault finding tools for IEC 61499 applications. I use 4diac as my primary development system and I am loving the research. 4diac has proven to be very stable and flexible but more than that, the support I get from the 4diac team when issues like this arise really proves the value of the platform. Thank you both again so much.

I will publish some of my work soon on Researchgate - it's getting to an interesting stage with some promising outcomes.

Thanks again.

This great to hear! When we started Eclipse 4diac this we hoped to bring an environment that helps not only us for our research but also researchers like you.

I'm looking forward to your first results. If you like you can also write a guest post for our news site.

We had now several releases and the issue didn't reappear. So I'm rather confident that we fixed it. If it comes back please let us know. The best would be to directly re-open comment at https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=559642
