What is the best way to access the commit messages (org.hawk.core.VcsCommit.getMessage()) from user queries or a query language.

We don't really keep that information in Hawk, unfortunately, as that is not part of the model. But you are right that it may make sense if we use a time-aware backend.

Want to file the first enhancement request for Hawk in our Bugzilla?

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/enter_bug.cgi?product=Hawk

We'd need to figure out where to keep this information in the graph. Hmm.

Okay, thanks. I've filed the request to BugZilla. It seems the information will need to be captured by the time-aware model updater right?

Yes, it'd be the time-aware model updater. I still need to think about how to best capture this information in a way that meshes well with our temporal graphs.

Just so you know, we have a branch with a first implementation of this feature now. We're just waiting for Jenkins to confirm it's fine before merging.
