Hello Team,
Until recently, my company had " fully outsource its application
development" to a software editor company, which developed using VB.net
and VStudio.net.
Because of failure (from both my company and the SW editor) to foresee the
necessity of a modular architecture, the application has to be almost
completely developed again (otherwise is too difficult to deploy and
integrate in legacy environments)
After joining the company I successfully sponsored in-house development of
at least the core application and therefore, now confronted to the
decision on whether use:
- Java/Eclipse multiple platforms or
- VB/VS.net
which translate on:
- create a team of Java/Eclipse developers or
- create a team of VB/VS.net (eventually hiring those who developed in the
first place)
I'm strongly in favour of using Java/Eclipse and committing to open source
strategy but, since there's already this relationship based in VB/VS.net.
I know I HAVE TO MAKE SURE I have stronger case in favour of Eclipse.
Can anyone advice me on how to make my case against VB/VS.net?
Can anyone help me to prove that committing to java/Eclipse is a better
strategic decision in the long run? for example in terms of modularity,
efficiency, ROI,...any comments are welcome.
