The Department of Computer Science, Software Technology Group (Prof. Dr. Mira Mezini), is looking for you as a paid
Open-Source Software Developer and Community Lead
starting as soon as possible for the duration of 3 years with the option of prolongation.

The TU Darmstadt is an autonomous university with broad research excellence, interdisciplinary profile and clear emphasis in engineering and information and communication technology. The Department of Computer Science is a top performer of the TU Darmstadt in research and teaching and in relevant nationwide and international rankings regularly in the top group to find.

Within the collaborative research center of the German Science Foundation "Cryptography-Based Security Solutions: Enabling Trust in New and Next Generation Computing Environments" (CROSSING www.crossing.tu-darmstadt.de), more than 70 researchers collaborate to build versatile and trustworthy cryptographic solutions for current and future applications. CogniCrypt (www.eclipse.org/cognicrypt/) is the CRC's primary, unifying showcase: an Eclipse open-source project that actively assists developers in securely integrating cryptographic components, including those provided by the CRC. To this end, CogniCrypt comprises the latest cutting-edge research and technology from the areas of automated program analysis and code generation.

Up until now, CogniCrypt has been developed by the CRC's researchers. Your role in this position would be to lead an effort to bring the further development of CogniCrypt to a professional level, for instance by establishing rigorous methods for continuous integration and delivery, and thorough cross-platform testing. In the long term, the CRC seeks to establish CogniCrypt as a project whose development is actively supported by a diverse and sustainable open-source community. The second task of your job will, therefore, be to establish and grow this community, for instance by promoting the project at developer conferences, by organizing appropriate workshops, hackathons, etc.

Your profile:
- Completed master in computer science or related disciplines
- Several years of software-engineering experience in Java
- Experience in continuous integration and deployment, as well as test automation, ideally for cross-platform testing
- Communication skills: you should be confident in delivering presentations and in actively approaching people to build a thriving community
Very good knowledge of English
- Background knowledge on cryptography is a plus

In return, this position will allow you to become a highly visible community lead for an official Eclipse project that has the chance to eventually help secure the code of millions of developers worldwide. You will be exposed to the latest state-of-the-art in program analysis and code-generation technology. And last but not least, of course, you will be exposed to exciting research and development in cryptography.
We offer a professional work environment and provide many opportunities to work with international collaboration partners from academia and industry, through CROSSING but also through other joint research projects. Working towards fulfilling the requirements for obtaining a doctorate degree can be made possible.
The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt). Part-time employment is generally possible.
Please send your application with the reference "OS-Dev for CROSSING" to Dr. Michael Eichberg, eichberg at cs.tu-darmstadt.de, Department of Computer Science, FG Software Technology, Hochschulstr. 10, 64289 Darmstadt. Please do not hesitate to contact Prof. Mezini if you have any further questions.
